Our Culture
Open minds. Family circus. Real community.
How Terra Meierdierck's open-mindset philosophy and the Terra-Eric-Victoria family story shape everything we do at Flexibility in Flight.
What we believe
A studio built on growth, not gatekeeping
Flexibility in Flight is more than a place to take class. It is a culture. Owner Terra Meierdierck, a master's-level educator, built this studio on a simple belief: ability is grown, not granted. That means no one is ever "too stiff," "too weak," "too old" or "too inexperienced" to start.
We teach from an open mindset. Every question is welcome, every modification is valid, and every wobbly first attempt is celebrated as data — not failure. Our coaches are guides, not drill sergeants, and our students are teammates, not competitors.
This is also a family business in the truest sense. Terra leads the instruction, Eric handles the rigging, building and behind-the-scenes work, and their daughter Victoria grew up in the studio and now helps welcome the next generation of flyers. Together they keep Flexibility in Flight running as a small, woman-owned, family-run circus in the heart of Chester, NY.

The open-mindset philosophy
Words we train by
"Nobody arrives 'flexible enough' or 'strong enough.' You arrive curious, and we build from there."
"A classroom should be a place where 'I can't' is replaced with 'I can't yet.'"
"Circus is not about being fearless. It is about taking the next step while the fear is still there."
How we show up
Six pillars of Flight Family culture
Open Mindset
Ability is grown, not granted. We meet every student with curiosity instead of assumptions. Questions, modifications and messy first attempts are the method — not detours from it.
Family Circus
Terra owns and teaches, Eric keeps the rigging and building running, and Victoria — our original circus baby — is often the first face you meet. When you walk through our doors you join the Flight Family.
Safety First
Our equipment is inspected regularly, our coaches are trained in progressions, and every class is sized so you get eyes on your technique. You cannot fail safely if no one sees you try.
Every Body Welcome
We do not discriminate. Every age, size, background, identity and experience level belongs here. Our studio is genuinely family friendly — from circus kids to adults trying their first inversion in their sixties.
Joyful Discipline
Circus is hard, and that is the point. We celebrate the small wins — the first climb, the first invert, the first moment you trust the fabric — because progress built on joy lasts longer than progress built on fear.
Community Over Competition
Showcases, jams, potlucks and open studio nights are where the real magic happens. The friendships built here are just as strong as the grips.

Family circus
Terra, Eric & Victoria — a family that keeps the show running
Terra dreamed up Flexibility in Flight and has spent years turning it into a place where students of all ages find confidence in the air. With a master's degree in education, she designs classes that meet people where they are and progress them safely toward skills they once thought impossible.
Eric is the steady force behind the scenes. He maintains the rigging, manages building projects and makes sure the studio is safe, functional and welcoming. His work lets Terra and the coaching team focus entirely on the students.
Victoria is the original circus baby. She has grown up in the studio, and now she helps the next generation of kids and teens feel at home in the air. For many young students, Victoria is the first friendly face they see — proof that circus can be a lifelong family affair.
Together they have created something rare: a small, independent, family-run studio with big-heart energy and a genuine welcome mat at the door.
