Absolute Beginner
Hoop Flow 101
Waist hooping, direction changes, walking and stepping in the hoop, plus your first hand spins. Hoops provided — turn up and play.
Class Spotlight
Our circus flow arts offering — spin, dance and play with the hoop on the ground while the aerialists fly overhead.
Hula Hoop Dance is the heart of our Circus Flow Arts program: ground-based, prop-driven movement that trains rhythm, coordination and expression instead of climbing strength. You'll learn on-body hooping at the waist, chest and hips, then move into off-body tricks, isolations, hand spins, breaks and transitions until the hoop becomes an extension of your dance.
Flow arts sit right next to aerial in the circus family — same playfulness, no rigging required. Because there's no climbing or inverting, hula hoop dance is one of the friendliest ways to start at Flexibility in Flight: absolutely no experience, strength or dance background is needed. Hoops are provided (adult flow hoops are larger and heavier than toy-store hoops, so they spin slowly and are far easier than you remember). It also cross-trains beautifully with lyra, silks and heels dance — the core control, musicality and stage presence carry straight over.
Fitted leggings or shorts and a snug top that stays put — loose fabric grabs the hoop. Bare feet, dance socks or sneakers all work. Waist hooping can leave light bruising the first couple of weeks; a slightly thicker waistband helps.
